Romney Goes on Offensive in First Debate with Obama
Mitt Romney battled back in his uphill
drive to oust President Barack Obama
on Wednesday with an aggressive
debate performance that put his
campaign on a more positive footing
after weeks of stumbles and knocked
Obama off-stride.
In the first of three presidential debates this
month, Romney went beyond expectations as
the two candidates stood side-by-side for the
first time after months of campaigning
against each other from long distance.
Looking to claw his way back into a race that
has seen Obama hold an edge among voters,
Romney was on the offensive throughout the
90-minute encounter with Obama. While the
president landed some punches on Romney’s
tax plan, he did not appear as prepared as
his rival and missed several opportunities to
attack.
With under five weeks to go until the
November 6 election, it was uncertain
whether Romney had managed to change
the trajectory of a race that has favoured
Obama. It is difficult to dislodge an
incumbent from the White House. In recent
weeks, Romney has lurched from stumble to
stumble and been unable to project a
consistent message.
“How does it translate into the horse race?
That’s unclear,” said Steven Schier, a political
science professor at Carleton College in
Minnesota. “Romney should have some
momentum. The question is whether he can
maintain it.”
But there was no question that Romney’s
campaign felt it was now in a better position.
In the “spin room” afterward, Romney
advisers hung around for 90 minutes talking
to reporters, long after the Obama side had
decamped.
A CNN/ORC snap poll said 67 percent of
registered voters surveyed thought Romney
won the debate at the University of Denver,
compared with 25 percent for Obama.
Romney and Obama clashed repeatedly over
taxes, healthcare and the role of government
in ways that reflected the deep ideological
divide in Washington and that has
contributed to political gridlock.
Romney zeroed in on weak economic growth
and 8.1 percent unemployment that have
left Obama vulnerable in his effort to win a
second four-year term. Government has
taken on too big a role under Obama,
dampening job creation, Romney argued.
“What we’re seeing right now, in my view,
(is) a trickle-down government approach,
which has government thinking it can do a
better job than free people pursuing their
dreams. And it’s not working. And the proof
of that is 23 million people out of work,”
Romney said.
Fact checkers took issue with some of
assertions by the former Massachusetts
governor, like the number of people
unemployed, but he appeared more poised
and better prepared than his opponent.
Obama argued that under his leadership, the
economy had been brought back from the
brink, with 5 million jobs created in the
private sector, a resurgent auto industry and
housing beginning to rise.
“You know, four years ago, we were going
through a major crisis. And yet my faith and
confidence in the American future is
undiminished,” Obama said.
NO MENTION OF THE ’47 PERCENT’
Mysteriously, Obama failed to mention issues
his campaign has used in attack ads to
damage Romney such as the Republican’s
now infamous “47 percent” video, job cuts he
made while at Bain Capital private equity
firm, his tax returns and previous hard line on
immigration.
The debate saw no haymaker punches
thrown and not much in the way of
memorable one-line zingers. Instead, it was a
war of attrition as each man used facts and
figures to make his points and stress the
differences between them.
Romney, however, did himself some favours
with crisper answers than Obama, who
sounded professorial and a bit long-winded
despite his staff’s best efforts to get him to
give snappier comments.
Quite often Obama looked downward at his
notes as Romney pounced on the president’s
record. At one point, the Democrat quibbled
with debate moderator Jim Lehrer who tried
to cut him off for going over his allotted time.
“I had five seconds before you interrupted
me,” Obama said to Lehrer with a smile.
Romney’s chances of winning the White
House were up by 8.4 percentage points
after the debate, although he was still only
34.3 percent assured of victory in November,
according to online betting site Intrade.
The incumbent did put Romney on the
defensive about his proposals for overhauling
the U.S. tax system with a 20 percent across-
the-board tax cut. Obama said it would cost
the government $5 trillion and that it would
be impossible to make up this amount by
eliminating tax loopholes as the Republican
talks about.
“The fact is that if you are lowering the rates
the way you described, Governor, then it is
not possible to come up with enough
deductions and loopholes that only affect
high-income individuals to avoid either raising
the deficit or burdening the middle class. It’s
– it’s math. It’s arithmetic,” Obama said.
Romney insisted his tax plan would not cost
$5 trillion, saying, “Virtually everything he
said about my tax plan is inaccurate.”
Obama also reminded Americans that
Romney was proposing more of the same
kind of tax cuts that Obama’s Republican
predecessor, former President George W.
Bush, pushed through Congress in 2001 and
2003. Most Americans are willing to concede
that Obama inherited an economic mess, but
also believe it is his responsibility to bring
back the economy.
“We ended up moving from surpluses to
deficits and it all culminated with the worst
recession since the Great Depression,” said
Obama.
In the face of attacks from Romney that the
Obama healthcare overhaul of 2010 will hurt
small-business hiring, Obama basically said
his healthcare plan was modelled after the
program Romney put in place as governor of
Massachusetts, and it “hasn’t destroyed jobs”
there.
After arguing for months that the Wall Street
regulation legislation known as “Dodd-Frank”
should be repealed, Romney was forced to
concede under pressure from Obama that he
would keep some financial regulations
established under the law.
ROMNEY NEEDED VICTORY MORE
Romney was in need of a victory in the
debate to help him put his campaign back on
a positive footing after a rocky few weeks.
He was damaged by a hidden-camera
videotape in which he said 47 percent of
voters were dependent on government and
unlikely to support him. That was among
several stumbles that have knocked
Romney’s campaign off message.
Obama, holding a slight lead in national polls
and leading Romney in some swing states
where the election will be decided, was
looking in the debate to avoid harming his
position as the apparent front-runner.
But he may have spent too much time trying
to avoid making mistakes and let Romney get
the better of him.
The debate was the best opportunity to date
to reach large numbers of voters in an
unfiltered way, with an estimated television
audience of 60 million possible.
Advisers to both Romney and Obama
predictably said their man emerged
victorious. Obama adviser David Plouffe told
reporters in the spin room that Romney
appeared “testy” at times.
As for Obama’s lengthy comments, his
campaign manager Jim Messina said, “That’s
never going to be our strong suit.”
Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom said if the
debate had been a prize fight, the referee
would have called it for Romney an hour in.
The debate was the first of three such face-
offs scheduled in the next four weeks. Biden
and Romney’s running mate, U.S.
Representative Paul Ryan, will debate once,
on October 11.

Man finds wife having SEX with another man ….. Kills HER
POLICE in Ndola have arrested a 29-year-old
man for allegedly murdering his wife after he
found her with another man in their
matrimonial home.
The incident happened on Saturday in
Geoffrey village near Tug-Argan Barracks after
Milton Munsanje found his wife, Lydia
Mahumbi, 29, with another man when he
went back home from a drinking spree.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary
Tembo confirmed the incident in an
interview.
Ms Tembo said Munsanje went home around
21:00 hours from drinking a local illicit brew
Kachasu when he found his wife with Ferry
Mwape from Foloko village.
“Munsanje got furious when he found his wife
with another man in the matrimonial home
and started beating up Mwape who ran away.
He later descended on his wife and beat her
to death,” Ms Tembo said.
She said Ms Mahumbi was only discovered
dead on her bed around 06:00 hours by her
mother, Ruth Mahumbi, who went to the
deceased’s house to ask for money to pay for
her grandchild’s school fees.
Ms Tembo said upon discovering that her
daughter had died, the deceased’s mother
quickly reported the matter to the police who
found cuts on Ms Mahumbi’s head and legs.
“The suspect is currently in police custody

Woman Had Two Teeth Removed From Her Left Eye by Doctors After 23 Years
In what seemed like an
unbelievable event, doctors
had their hands full in addition
to their already dazed minds.
Doctors operating on a tumour
in Nagabhushanam Siva's left eye were
stunned to find the two fully-formed teeth
embedded inside.
When asked, the 23 year old said: "I was born
with an abnormal left eye and it continued to
swell over the years. My family was too scared to
send me to see a doctor and during the last few
years it has grown much bigger. I had blurred
vision so eventually I consulted a doctor for help."
Teratoma was the diagnosis that was given to
Nagabhushanam by doctors at a government
hospital in Chennai, southern India. The tumour
had pushed her eye inside its socket and
protruded the skin, blocking her vision and
partially damaging the optic nerve. The growth
also left her unable to move her eyeball and had
developed lazy eye syndrome.
Doctors said they had seen a few past cases of
Teratoma with tooth-like tissues embedded in the
tumour, but fully formed teeth were very rare.
Hospital Director, Dr K Vasantha, said: "A
Teratoma is a mass of tissue that contains cysts
and sometimes contains hard tissues but fully
grown teeth is so very rare."
The removal of the tumour caused severe
damage to Nagabhushanam's optic nerve which
has tragically left her permanently blind.
"Because it was left untreated all these years the
tumour was allowed to grow to extraordinary
lengths. That resulted in the optic nerve
damage," Dr Vasantha added. Orbital Teratomas
are rare embryonic tumors composed of tissues
that grow in the attempt to form an organ.
The first case of this condition was reported 149
years ago. Only 70 such cases have been found
worldwide ever since.
Don't we have a right to know what's going on with our First Lady?
First, we heard that our first lady had food
poisoning and had to be flown abroad for
treatment. Then we heard she had Parkinson,
and died. Now we hear she's being treated
for cancer of the uterus at a hospital in
Germany. All these speculations!
Dame Patience Jonathan has been MIA for
over a month now and there has not been an
official statement regarding her whereabouts
from the presidency. Does it not make sense
for President Jonathan to address the nation
and maybe tell us what's up with our first
lady? Does he owe us that, or is it a private
matter that he can choose not to talk about?

9 pupils found PREGNANT …. Who did THIS?
Wednesday 3rd October 2012 - A total of
nine girls in Tumboboi Primary School in
Kaptanya sub-county, Kapchorwa district in
Uganda, have been tested and found
pregnant.
"One pupil tipped me after a quarrel that her
colleague was pregnant. I also called the
senior woman teacher who arranged for a
nurse to carry out pregnancy tests. Nine of
our pupils tested positive," the head teacher,
Fred Mark Cherus, said.
Cherus said out of the nine girls, two of them
had normal deliveries three weeks back
despite the fact that they gave birth at
home.
He said the girls who were found pregnant
are aged between 14 and 16 years and
pupils of P6 and P7.
Cherus said those who gave birth have
reported back to school to prepare for the
final examinations but usually go home to
breastfeed their babies during the lunch
break.
Cherus said they had encouraged those that
have not yet delivered to continue studying
until they are due to deliver.
The Sebei sub-region girls' education
movement chairperson, Justine Yapsoyekwo,
told New Vision that most schools in
Kapchorwa were facing problems of early sex,
marriage, forceful circumcision of girls, child
labour and early pregnancies.
Man Makes His Wife Feed On His Feaces For 3 Days
A 32-year-old man from Robert Sinyoka area has
been sentenced to seven years in prison for
locking his estranged with in a room for three
days and making her feast on his feaces for
survival.
The incident which typifies the zenith of cruelty
took place in July but was only reported to police
recently. Lucky Matiza and his 19-year-old wife
were staying separately at the time of the
incident. The woman had also just given birth.
It is reported that on the day, the woman met her
estranged husband while walking in the suburb.
Matiza is said to have dragged the woman to
bushy spot where he reportedly subjected her to
a vigorous interrogation for three hours on why
she separated with him. Unsatisfied with the
feedback, Matiza took the woman to his lodgings
and locked her in a room.
The woman spent the whole night without eating.
In the morning, Matiza proceeded to the room
and told her that he was not going to give her
food unless she gave him reasons regarding to
why she parted ways with him. The woman,
however, refused to do so.
It is alleged that hours later, Matiza returned with
a bowel full of human waste that he claimed was
his and told her to eat it. With hunger setting in
with each passing microsecond, the woman was
left with no choice but to eat what was before
her. That was also the routine in the evening and
the next two days.
With the detention approaching four days, the
woman's health gave in and she fell sick. She was
then taken to hospital where all was revealed.
Matiza was arrested and appeared before
Bulawayo Senior Provincial magistrate, Mr Willard
Moyo who was geared to render adequate
punishment for the cruel deed.
The man was slapped with a seven-year jail term
before two years were suspended on condition of
good behaviour. Matiza told the court that he
indeed made his wife eat his poop.
In passing the sentence, Mr Moyo made it known
to Matiza that he had committed a very serious
crime.
"There is no excuse for what you did and the
sentence should show that. You made matters
worse by separating the woman and her two
weeks old baby for three days, which is
unacceptable," fumed the magistrate.

Romney and Obama on a Face- to-Face Debate...REUTERS
Republican candidate Mitt Romney is
under pressure to produce a strong
performance on Wednesday at his first
face-to-face debate with President
Barack Obama to try to turn around a
race for the White House that has been
edging away from him.
The 90-minute encounter offers the chance
to reach more than 60 million people on
television, a far greater audience than
watched either candidate speak at the
Democratic and Republican conventions.
While that has potential dividends in
attracting undecided voters, there is also the
risk that one or the other will make a major
mistake that can overshadow the campaign
in the last five weeks before the November 6
election.
Running behind in the polls, Romney is more
in need of a victory than Obama at the
University of Denver debate, the first of three
such face-offs scheduled in the next four
weeks.
“I think he’s got to have a pretty convincing
win,” said David Yepsen, director of the Paul
Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern
Illinois University. “He’s had a bad few weeks
and he needs to change the narrative of the
campaign.”
The Republican was damaged by a secretly
taped video from a private fundraiser in
which he said 47 percent of voters are
dependent on government and unlikely to
support him. It was only one of several recent
stumbles by the former Massachusetts
governor in his second presidential bid.
At the Denver debate, Romney needs not
only to repair some of the damage from the
video. He must raise questions about
Obama’s handling of the U.S. economy and
explain how his own plan would create more
jobs and cut the budget deficit.
Romney must get through the debate
without losing his cool and without appearing
to be disrespectful to Obama, who many
Americans like personally despite his struggle
to create jobs. And the often robotic
Republican could do with showing some
personality to make voters feel more
comfortable with him.

Four Nigerian peacekeepers killed in Sudan’s Darfur
Four Nigerian peacekeepers were killed
and eight wounded in an ambush in
Sudan’s western Darfur region, the
international peacekeeper force UNAMID
said on Wednesday.
“They were killed last night some 2 km (1.2
miles) from our regional headquarters in El
Geneina. They came under fire from all
sides,” a spokesman for UNAMID said.
UNAMID, the world’s largest peacekeeping
mission, was deployed by the United Nations
and the African Union in the arid western
territory after fierce fighting in 2003 which
forced hundreds of thousands of people to
flee their homes.
A total of 42 peacekeepers have been killed
since UNAMID was set up, according to the
force.
Violence in Darfur, where mostly non-Arab
rebels took up arms against the government
in Khartoum, has ebbed from a 2003-04 peak
but international efforts to broker peace have
failed to end the conflict.
The International Criminal Court has issued
arrest warrants for Sudan’s President Omar
Hassan al-Bashir and other officials to face
charges of masterminding atrocities in the
region where Sudanese troops and allied Arab
militias have sought to crush the rebellion.
Estimates of the death count vary widely.
Sudan’s government signed a Qatar-
sponsored peace deal with an umbrella
organisation of smaller rebel groups last year,
but the major factions refused to join.
Emeka Ike disrupts AGN election again, arrests Emma Ogugua
Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike who has vowed to
sanitise the collapsed Actors Guild of Nigeria
(AGN) on Thursday waded the big stick again as
he disrupted the Guild’s election held in Lagos.
It would be recalled that Emeka Ike was also at
the centre of the crisis that ruined the election of
the guild in Benin, some five months ago.
The actor stormed the venue where the election
was being held to arrest the vice-chairman of the
BOT of the Guild, Mr. Emma Ogugua with some
policemen. “Emma was whisked away to Zone 2
headquarters of the police force where he met
with the AIG in charge of the zone. He was
accompanied by Steve Eboh, who is contesting
in the election as President.
Speaking with HVP over the telephone, Emeka
Ike said: ‘I stormed the venue to arrest Emma
Agugua because he was conducting an illegal
election. I have a case in court against the
leadership of the Guild, until the matter is
determined, nobody has the right to conduct
any election under the law.”
Emma, according to our source, later came back
to the secretariat some minutes past 5pm. It was
not clear whether the election continued or not.
However, HVP gathered that at the Lagos venue
of the election, which went on simultaneously in
all the state chapters across the federation, top
Nollywood stars like Omotola Ekeinde Jalade,
Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Jim Iyke, and
others were missing.
Emeka Rollas, Steve Eboh and Feberisima
Ibinabo are contesting for the position of
President.
Mario Balotelli and pregnant ex girlfriend Raffaella Fico back together
Let me give you a brief history of their rocky
relationship. Mario and Raffaella dated for about a
year. They broke up in April 2012 after Rafaella
accused Mario of cheating. Two months later the
model announced she was pregnant. Mario said
he would only accept the pregnancy after a
paternity test. Last week, the 22 year
Manchester City footballer said he would be
patching up his relationship with his pregnant
ex. He said:
'I have decided to try again with Raffaella.
The DNA test has not been performed and
has nothing to do with my decision. In any
case, I would have asked for the test in that
situation with anyone, not just Raffaella. I
am sorry for everything that has happened
over the last few months and above all for
what has been said and written. I ask once
again for you all to respect our private life
that in the future must remain private, a
pledge taken by me and Raffaella. There will
be no further statements or interviews.'
A week later, photos surface of the two kissing...
Nicki Minaj Curses Off Mariah Carey: Caught on Tape!
If tension equates to ratings, American Idol
may shatter a few records this season.
During a taping of early Season 12 auditions
in Charlotte yesterday, production slammed
to a halt when Nicki Minaj WENT OFF on
Mariah Carey - and portions of the incident
are caught on tape! (www.thehollywoodgossip.com/videos/nicki-minaj-goes-off-on-mariah-carey/)
As captured by TMZ , Minaj
tells producers: "I told them I'm not f-ckin'
putting up with her f-ckin' highness over
there."
It's been no secret that Carey is angry over
the show bringing another female on board,
and it's now clear the feeling of disdain is
mutual.
Sources say the fight broke out over a
contestant's performance and that Nicki told
Mariah at one point: "I'm gonna knock you
out."
Keith Urban and Randy Jackson tried to settle
their counterparts down, but to no avail. The
taping consequently shut down early in order
for both sides to slow their respective rolls.
Producers are reportedly legitimately worried
about chemistry on set, bu, hey, at least they
didn't bring Khloe Kardashian on board to
host.

Sunburn Yacht Hotel Ordered to Leave Lagos Shores
LAGOS - As all issues relating to the
controversial Sunburn Yacht Hotel had been
cleared, while arrangement had also been
reached to take it back for rehabilitation
and repairs, Lagos State Government said it
had issued a notice to the owners to remove
it from Lagos shore for security purpose.
It would be recalled that a group had staged a
demonstration to the office of the Economic and
Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to protest over
what they termed government's financial
involvement by using tax payers' money to fund
the yacht project.
Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental
Relations, Oladisun Holloway, made the
clarification while speaking on the recent public
comments that state government has financial
interest in the yacht.
Holloway, while debunking the reports, stressed
that Governor Babatunde Fashola had on several
occasions stated that the state government never
invested in the project.
He said stakeholders in the business transaction
maintained that all issues relating to the vessel
had been cleared, noting that outstanding issues
have been settled out of court.
Holloway said: "We have to correct that
impression that Lagos has investment in the
vessel. Lagos State government did not invest its
money into acquiring Sunburn Yacht. The state
government did not invest the tax payer's money
in the acquisition of the yacht."
Usher to Tameka Foster: Move Out!
The custody battle between Usher and ex-
wife Tameka Foster may be over, but the
feuding remains.
In the wake of this singer earning primary
custody over the former couple's two
children, Usher has come out swinging
against attacks from Foster, while Tameka has
defended herself as a non-gold digger.
And now Usher is issuing a new statement to
his ex: GET OUT!
Sources confirm to TMZ that the artist is
putting his $3 million Georgia mansion on the
market, the same residence where Foster has
been crashing since 2009.
According to the pair's divorce documents,
Usher is permitted to rid himself of the home
as long as he gives Tameka 60 days notice.
Foster is anything but happy over the
development, considering her lack of income,
but Usher has a simple response to that
complaint:
It's been over three years. Shape up, and
then ship out.
Prince Harry Drops Naked Photo Complaint
Prince Harry has dropped a formal complaint
against editors at the UK newspaper which
published naked photos of the British royal
from his scandalous Las Vegas holiday.
The Sun defied the royal family and published
shots of Prince Harry naked that everyone
had already seen on the Internet anyway
(with a headline that even acknowledged
this).
The scandal first broke with the pics leaked
online in August.
The Sun was the only paper to ignore advice
from the UK's media watchdog, the Press
Complaints Commission (PCC), not to run the
shots, and the images were printed days
later.
The bold move prompted the Prince, who has
since begun active military service on the
front line in Afghanistan, to file a formal
complaint with the PCC, which he has now
dropped.
A spokesperson for royal residence St James's
Palace says:
"We remain of the opinion that a hotel room is
a private space where its occupants would
have a reasonable expectation of privacy,
however Prince Harry is currently focused
entirely on his deployment in Afghanistan, so
to pursue a complaint relating to his private
life would not be appropriate at this time and
would prove to be a distraction."
They also have the Kate Middleton nude
photos to deal with.
She and husband Prince William have filed a
breach of privacy lawsuit against the owners
of Closer, the French magazine which first
printed those images.
The royals have won an injunction against
them barring further publication of the
images, which have since run in several other
European gossip publications.
And, of course, the Internet. Hard as it is to
go through what the royals are in this case,
it's harder and probably fruitless to try to put
the nude genie back in the bottle.
So to speak.

Janet Jackson’s $20 Million Dollar Wedding Plans [PHOTOS]
Its rumored that pop icon Janet Jackson is
going to be tying the knot, but doing it
extravagantly as she is breaking the bank
to do so.
Janet Jackson and billionaire hubby Wissam Al
Mana are reported to be getting married in 2013
and their wedding plans and expenses are off the
wall. Right now they are looking at 3 million to
fly their 500 guests in from all over the world
along with a $10,000 Rolex for each of the
guests that attend running them already 8
million.
Wissam although being a billionaire already has
definitely hit the jack pot and landed himself a
woman of experience as Janet is almost 10
years older than him. As per
iamnotacelebrityasskisser.blogspot.com they
have been dating since 2010 and Janet doesn’t
seem to mind at all, because when asked about
the age difference she simply said:
My mother always raised us to believe that age
was just a number. All of us, my sisters, my
brothers, we’ll just tell you our ages because it’s
all about where you are mentally and how you
feel about yourself. It doesn’t matter.”
Guess age and money is nothing but a
number to this open minded couple...
Diezani Alison-Madueke Maintained Rooms In Two New York Luxury Hotels During UN Assembly- Sahara Reporters
Investigations by SaharaReporters revealed
that Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani
Alison-Madueke, booked and paid for two
rooms in two separate high-cost hotels during
the four nights she spent in New York City
during the just concluded United Nations
General Assembly.
Impeccable sources within the Presidency and
the delegation of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) disclosed that
the minister’s two rooms were booked under
a pseudonym.
Saharareporters discovered that Joe Mordi,
one of the minister’s closest aides who works
at the NNPC office in London, booked her into
a one-bedroom suite at Four Seasons Hotel
located at 57 East 57th Street, New York.
When SaharaReporters inquired at the hotel,
a staff said that the suite cost $5,000 per
night. Ms. Alison-Madueke, who is known
around Presidency circles as “Prime Minister,”
was also booked into another room at the
Pierre Hotel on 2 East 61st Street in New York
where President Goodluck Jonathan lodged
during his stay in New York. SaharaReporters
found out that her room on the 28th floor of
the Pierre Hotel cost Nigerian tax payers
$3,000 per night. There were also additional
charges in taxes and service fees.
Ms. Alison-Madueke arrived in New York in
style on a private jet on Monday from London
where she had made a brief stop to continue
treatment for an undisclosed ailment. She is
billed to return to London today. President
Jonathan left New York last night around 6:00
p.m. and has arrived in Nigeria very early
today.
SaharaReporters also learnt that, apart from
the lavish double accommodation enjoyed by
the Petroleum minister in two of New York
City’s most expensive hotels, her delegation of
seven NNPC officials also engaged in other
acts of reckless spending. “The NNPC hired
ten limousines to ferry its 7 officials, including
the General Managing Director,” said our
source. Five of the limousines, rented for
$1,800 each per day, were stationed
permanently in front of the Pierre Hotel while
another five were put to the service of the
NNPC officials at the Four Seasons.
The Nigerian delegation’s profligacy during
the New York trip earned the attraction of
America’s mainstream media. New York-based
National Broadcasting Corporation ((NBC), one
of the top three television networks in the US,
yesterday reported that African delegates
from the poorest countries stayed in some of
the most expensive hotels and shopped in
high-priced retail stores during the UN
General Assembly. The network focused on
delegates from such countries as Togo,
Swaziland, and Nigeria. SaharaReporters had
earlier reported that President Jonathan was
quartered at the Pierre Hotel in a suite that
cost $10,000 per night.
International measurements of social indices
routinely rank Nigeria as one of the world’s
least developed countries. Some 70% of
Nigerians live on less than 2 dollars per day.
“It is sad that the mindless waste of public
resources in New York by President Jonathan
and other Nigerian officials was happening at
a time when two million Nigerians have been
displaced from their homes by ravaging
floods,” said an Abuja-based civil society
activist.

The model and Wiz Khalifa are expecting their
first child some time before the end of the
year, and the ex-girlfriend of Kanye West says
she's very ready to be a mother.
"I’m going all-natural," Rose tells the

want those bragging rights! The next time
Wiz has a stomachache or anything, I’ll say, ‘I
popped out a baby all-natural.’”
What attracted Amber to her man?
"[H]e’s just a genuine sweet guy," she says.
"And I just said, “You know what, I don’t care

“Oh, you’re a gold-digger.” I don’t care if
people say, “Oh, you went from one rapper to

Ahmed Grema Mohammed, Top Immigration Officer Working For Boko Haram Arrested
The resolve of Nigeria's security agencies to flush
out the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram from
parts of the North, yielded more fruits
culminating in the arrest of agents of the terrorist
group in some paramilitary agencies
Among those arrested in the latest onslaught
was Ahmed Grema Mohammed, a top
immigration officer whose confessions led to the
arrest of others who have been carrying attacks
on government officials across some States of the
North.
According to the Spokesman of the JTF, Lt.
Colonel Sagir Musa, those already apprehended
are some security personnel who have been
carrying out attacks in Borno and Yobe which he
said was a major breakthrough in their efforts at
flushing out insiders in the security forces
collaborating with the deadly groups.
A Statement by Musa said that those arrested
have confessed to being active members of the
Boko Haram sect who joined the sect well before
the 2009 crisis and received a lot of training in
and outside the country.
He said that Grema also confessed to have been
trained alongside 15 other members of the sect
on weapon handling, assassinations and special
operations in Niger Republic.
Musa said Grema was arrested at a checkpoint
on his way to Maiduguri while impersonating as a
Nigeria Army lieutenant.
He further said during the trip Grema had
planned killing a former special adviser to the
immediate governor of Borno state. He also
disclosed that Grema had equally confessed to
the killings of some senior civil servants, security
agencies and politicians in Yobe and Borno States
who spoke against the activities of the sect,
including the slain former chairman of Damboa
LGA, Alhaji Lawal Kawu.
Grema was also among those that led attacks on
Yobe Police Command, Damaturu Prison, some
primary schools, among others.
Too Much Money: Living in Lagos, Shopping in London.
The London Evening Standard‘s feature on Simi
Osomo, a 25 year-old Nigerian who makes six
trips to London spending a total of £30,000
(N7,622,220) got my attention this morning.
According to the report, she spends about two
weeks during each trip and goes shopping
everyday of her trip.
Speaking about Nigerians and their shopping
habits, she told the Standard “When it comes to
shopping and Nigerians, I can tell you it’s just
what we have to do.”
During every trip, she spends about £5,000
(N1,270,370). She tells the Standard that aside
from the fact that goods are cheaper in London, it
gives her a chance to have a holiday. “You can
get lots of things in Lagos but they are cheaper
here and you get to take a holiday and relax a bit.
It’s only six hours away.”
Although she likes the variety of London, Marks &
Spencer is one of Osomo’s favourite shops. “I love
their fajitas. You can’t get them in Nigeria. I also
buy soy sauce and Thai green curry paste, which
is good because it lasts for a long time. Oh, and
Crunchy Nut cereal, Skittles, Maltesers and tea.
There’s nothing like a British cuppa. I get Lipton,
PG and green tea. I love Zara, H&M, Topshop. But
if I want something more high end, there’s Sloane
Street.”
When it comes to getting her haul of hopping
back to Lagos, she says it is costly. “All I pack
when I come over is one pair of jeans and three
tops. I bring two big suitcases but I always have
to get another one and pay for excess baggage. I
never learn.” British Airways has increased its
excess baggage charge on flights from London to
Lagos from £40 to £97 per suitcase in the past
year. “They must have realised we always put an
extra bag in and thought they’d try to make
money out of it,” she told the Standard.
During her chat with Standard, she wore a green
top from Zara, blue skinny jeans and new
Christian Louboutin shoes. She also planned to
buy an iPhone 5 later in the day for her sister.
She said Zara which opened an outlet store in
Lagos six months ago is affordable.
”Zara is affordable because it’s an outlet but
what I find is that things are a bit last season.
Nigeria’s hot all the time so there are always maxi
dresses and swimwear but the colours are boring
and we lack variety. Customer service is not great
and some shops can get really crowded, which is
challenging.”
According to Osomo, it is not just rich Nigerians
who come over to shop in the UK. “Middle-class
people can afford to come and spend £600 on
shopping in a week here. What I like about the UK
is that it doesn’t discriminate. As long as you’re
able to prove you have an income,
accommodation in London and a return ticket,
the authorities are more than willing to give you a
visa. It’s closer than America and the customer
service here is phenomenal.”
She loves to shop in summer which is the height
of the shopping season, and also comes back for
the January sales too. Her mother, a lawyer, and
father, a businessman, often join her. She has just
finished a law degree and is about to start a job in
fashion journalism, which she hopes will give her
enough holidays for trips to London.
Nigerian-Born Christmas Day bomber’s Underwear Failed to Detonate “Because he had worn them for THREE WEEKS!”- FBI
On December 25th, 2009, Umar Farouk
Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian tried to detonate an
explosive aboard a Northwest Flight 253 over
Detroit in the United States of America. As the
son of one of Nigeria’s most prominent
businessmen and someone who had access to
international travel and a world-class
education, his terrorist act took Nigeria by
surprise.
Umar has since been sentenced to life
imprisonment without parole. However, the FBI
has recently revealed the reason why
the explosives failed to go off.
During his trial he said the bomb in his underwear
was a ‘blessed weapon’ to avenge poorly treated
Muslims around the world.
Two FBI agents told WXYZ TV that Umar
confessed to the plot, saying that he had worn
the explosive underwear for three weeks in order
to get used to it and make sure he could get it
through security.
“So basically for three weeks he wore this
garment, these underwear with this device in
it. We think ultimately that is probably what
caused the disruption in the sequence of events
in the explosion,” said FBI agent Ted Peissig.
The agents also revealed that Umar was not
recruited by al Qaeda, but the other way around.
“He sought out al Qaeda relentlessly,” another FBI
agent on the case, Mike Connelly said. “He
persisted and he was almost turned away at
times, you know, by al Qaeda. But he refused to
relent.”
FBI agents also say the Underwear Bomber might
have inadvertently foiled his own plot because of
his obsession about making sure the bomb would
not be detected. They further revealed that he
had been instructed to detonate the bomb over a
populated area to maximize the death toll.
Here is the account of the FBI agents as reported
by WXYZ TV
In Abdulmutallab’s mind it was an act of
martyrdom and jihad. He had no feelings for the
men, women and children around him who were
about die, according to the FBI agents.
“He did not bat an eye in saying if that plane was
going to go down, it was going to go down. That
was God’s call. That wasn’t his call. His
responsibility was just to detonate the bomb, and
whatever happened, happened,” says agent
Connelly.
As the huge jumbo jet carrying over 300 people
was approaching Detroit, Abulmutallab
disappeared into the restroom to wash himself, a
ritual for his passage into the next life. When he
returned to his seat he told the guy sitting next
to him that he wasn’t feeling well.
“And pulled a blanket almost completely
concealing himself up to the chin,” says Agent
Peissig.
Using a plastic syringe, Abdulmutallab injected a
mixture of liquids and solids into the explosive
chemicals already packed into his underwear.
But Instead of exploding, the bomb burst into
flames, setting his clothes and the blanket on fire,
seriously burning him.
The two agents who visited Nigeria during the
course of his investigation said they extracted
detailed and chilling information about
Abdulmutallab and his mission, getting a rare
glimpse into the mind of a suicide bomber.
“In his tone, his conversation, he’s very
reserved,” adds agent Connelly. “He’s deliberate
in his speech.”
“The witnesses remarked about how he just
looked like a simple young school boy,” says
Peissig.
But appearances don’t match reality in the case
of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Agents say he
was an extreme fanatic and a very dangerous
man.
He was hell-bent on taking down a jumbo jet over
Detroit with no consideration for the hundreds
who would die in the plane and on the ground.
“He is completely different from any terrorist that
I’ve had the ability to talk to,” explains Connelly.
“Different because of his absolute devotion to
Jihad. The degree of conviction that he had to the
cause is unparalleled.”
We are glad his attempt to kill innocent people
was foiled.

Nigerian Couple in the UK Jailed for Trying to Claim £3.8m in Benefits Scam using 1,400 Identities
Exactly a week ago after the news of
Nigerian couple arrested in the UK
for falsely claiming about £43,000 in benefits was brought to our readers. The
story elicited much fury from readers who were
disappointed at the bad image they portrayed
about Nigerians abroad.
It is therefore saddening to read news of yet
another Nigerian couple arrested in the UK for
securing £87,000 from fraudulent claims totalling
£3.8million over four years.
Adeola Thomas, 38, and his partner, Abimbola
Abiola, 34, managed to pocket £87,000 after
using 1,400 stolen identities to complete 2,495
handwritten tax and benefits claims forms.
And just like the other couple that was reported
to have lavishly spent the money on a house in
Nigeria, the pair spent the money on designer
clothing and electrical items including a 50-inch
plasma television.
The fraud was discovered when benefits staff
at HM Revenue & Customs noticed they had
received multiple tax credit claims from the same
addresses. Subsequently, an investigation was
launched.
Thomas’ hand-written application forms were
analysed, computer records were checked, and
hours of recorded calls to the Tax Credit Helpline
were listened to and a surveillance operation was
carried out. The HRMC investigators viewed CCTV
footage showing activity outside various North
London Post Office ATMs.
Thomas was eventually arrested at a cash point
outside a Post Office in Hackney on October 7th
last year. He was found to be in possession of 17
Post Office account cards in different names, two
mobile phones and two fraudulently completed
forms addressed to Jobcentre Plus.
When Abiola was arrested later the same day, she
had £4,125 in her handbag. The mother-of-one
claimed the money was her child benefit
payment.
Daily Mail reports that the pair, who carried out
the scam between January 3, 2007 and October
7, 2011, tried to claim £827,000 from HMRC,
securing £43,000. They also claimed £3 million
from the Department of Work and Pensions and
received £44,000.
With Abiola’s help, Thomas used stolen personal
details to complete 2,495 handwritten application
forms, which were sent to the appropriate
departments for processing.
Thomas, who also happens to be an illegal
immigrant pleaded guilty to three counts of
conspiracy to defraud and money laundering
offences. Abiola, a Nigerian national with leave to
remain in the UK was also found guilty of four
counts of conspiracy to defraud, money
laundering and possession of criminal property.
They were both sentenced to jail this week.
Thomas was sentenced to seven years in jail while
Abiola received two-and-a-half years sentence.
The Judge who read his sentence indicated
Thomas should be deported after serving his time
in the UK.

Name The Pastors Who Asked You For Sex: PFN Tells Tope Alabi
This is funny, but that is what PFN, the
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, wants the
gospel singer Tope Alabi to clarify.
Tope recently granted an interview where she
said, some notable Pastors have asked her for sex
in the past. PFN is not pleased with this. They
want her to mention names in other for them to
be able to differentiate the bad eggs from the
good ones.
In a statement, the official wrote, "it is not
impossible that a pastor pestered her for sex as
she claimed, but she needs to come out and
name such an individual in order to teach others
a lesson and cleanse the body of bad eggs.
Making such unsubstantiated claims on the pages
of newspapers will not make any impact but
rather bring shame to the body of Christ. She
knows the proper channel to follow to report
something like that."
They stated.
Undergraduate On Trial For Homosexual
Ortyom Dyorugh, a 20-year-old Accounting
student of Benue State University, Makurdi,
was on Friday remanded in prison for
allegedly indulging in homosexuality with a
seven-year old boy (name withheld).
The 300 level student, who was arraigned before
a Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi for alleged
gross indecency, was said to have forced the
minor to commit the act with him at the Judges
Quarters area of Makurdi where they both lived.
According to the First Information Report (FIR)
filed by Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Patrick
Sunday, the accused took boy to an uncompleted
building within the vicinity of Judges Quarters
where he forced him to suck his penis
threatening to kill him if he refused to do it.
The Prosecutor further told the court that the
alleged sucking of Dyorugh's genital resulted in
the release of sperm into the boy's mouth on
three different occasions after which he reiterated
his threat to kill him if he revealed the unholy act
to anyone.
The young boy however, was said to have started
exhibiting strange behaviour after the act which
stirred his parents' attention and inquisition.
After much questioning, he opened up to his
parents and told them his ordeal.
The boy's father, a reverend reported the matter
to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, CIB of the
Benue State Police Command and Dyorugh was
subsequently arrested.
When the case came up under Section 285 of the
Penal Code, Dyorugh denied the allegation.
Trial Chief Magistrate Lilian Tsumba directed that
the accused be thrown behind bars at the
Makurdi Medium Security Prison.
50 Cent Tweets Tips To Stop Masturbating
Rapper 50 Cent is known for being an
outspoken individual. Since joining Twitter,
50 has gotten into trouble tweeting stock tips
and rude jokes about tsunamis and
homosexuals. It looks as though Fif has
turned over a new leaf. 50 Cent has been
tweeting about abstaining from sex and
masturbation. Apparently, sex and
masturbation are sins and 50 is just trying to

Another Plane Crash? Qatar Airline Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos
Qatar Airline flight 592 from Doha to Lagos
made an emergency landing a few minutes
ago at the Murtala Muhammed International
airport, Lagos. The pilots discovered midair
that one tyre had low pressure, making
landing difficult. They radioed our airport for
emergency precaution and a vehicle to tow
the plane from the runway to the gate.
The best part was, more than 95% of the
passengers didn't even know anything was
wrong until the plane landed and they saw
fire service and National Emergency
Management Agency all around. One of the
passengers tweeted that it was a smooth
landing so was surprised that they even had
issues.
The plane has been slowly towed to it's
landing spot at the airport. We thank God
Aero-Molue: 16 People Standing on Board as Arik Air overbooks flight
This is going on right now at Murtala

Arik Air overbooked their Lagos-Benin flight

have refused to come down. Passengers have
been at the airport since 6:30. Flight was
initially supposed to take off at 7:30, then

No passenger is leaving and the plane is

Naija for show! So Arik doesn't know when to stop
selling tickets? Or they were hoping some

D’BANJ REVEALS HIS BACHELOR'S SECRET
That Koko Master loves to spring up surprises is
well known to his followers and fans, in fact, his
has become a master of that game.
Our own very Mr. Endowed is seriously coming up
with something hot with his musical video
director, Sesan Ogunro. The two personalities
were sighted in Atlanta recently at the location of
the video shoot, ‘Bachelor’ D’banj’s latest work.
Let’s watch out for this video as it tells a story of
his bachelorhood. The shooting started with a
story of D’banj’s ‘girlfriend’ storming out of his
house for no particular reason but instead of him
feeling downcast, he calls a truck load of girls to
come party with him…sounds interesting!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
